  • Where to meet up :

    Don't get confused.
    There are two Cheongnyangni Stations.
One is on subway line, the other is on railroad.
    It's very simple.
  • So, if you arrive at the Chungnyangni station on subway line,
  • please take the following steps..

    1. Don't hesitate to get out of the Exit #4 of the Cheongnyangni Station (on Subway line)...
Many people tend to roam about inside the station and get lost.

    2. If you get out of the exit #4, you will find the building Cheongnyangni Station  (on railroad)

    3. If you go or run up the stairs to the 3rd floor, you will get to the WAITING AREA.

    4. Let's get together just in front of this KORAIL TRAVEL  INFORMATION BUREAU.

    Hello MTT members,

Are you still fighting a persistent city life? How about being a crew member on a raft this early summer, flinging yourself into rowing your rafting boat? Now, let your spirit of adventure alive and well. This is not a copycat rafting event. Our raft will be traveling at an average speed of four knots with one or two of the Dong-Kang River's most skilled rafting guides, This rafting trip includes the longest course and a luxurious B&B-style hotel with a BBQ party.

The Dong-Kang river in a region in eastern Korea, is not easy to reach. But this river attracts adventurous travelers during the summer months. We, the adventurous, make the three-hour train trip from Seoul (Cheongryangri station on Subway line #1) to the city of Yeongwol, where a shuttle bus will be waiting for us to take us to the Joeun Hotel which is similar to a luxurious French pension.
The region around the Dong-Kang river is the place where lots of people prefer to congregate. After enjoying our time in the water, jinking here and there with remarkable agility, our MTT members, all crew, will be glad to be back on the ground, looking forward to having a nice shower and enjoying a good meal. This rafting trip plan could be made on the cheap, with the help of  some sponsors,  so that more MTT members could join these outside activities.

Almost all participants are newbie rafters. So we have no other options but to choose between  Grade 1 and  Grade 2. (Skill level: from "very basic" to "basic paddling skill") Very small rough areas might require slight maneuvering. And some rough water, maybe some rocks, might require some maneuvering. There are no drops and no considerable danger. So you don't need to have signigicant maneuvering skills.

Although there are modest hotels peppering the area around the river Dong Kang, there are few better ways to immerse yourself in the wild and untamed beauty of the valleys and mountains.

The smoke of cooking fires will mingle with the evening mist rising off the River Dong Kang as we appear on the balcony or front yard of the Joeun Hotel after our rafting trip...

    ▪ All the organizers, especially the main organizer, will be too busy to mingle during the party.

Summer Rafting Tips: What to Wear & What Not To!

So you're heading off for the River Dong-Kang rafting trip? Listed below are some of the items you'll want to bring with you, as well as some you want to avoid.

     Quick-drying shorts

Nylon shorts are perfect. What you need to look for is a fabric that will dry quickly. You want to be able to get splashed, jump in the water, and yet still have dry shorts at lunch. Your day will be a lot more comfortable that way.

What you don't want: Jean cut-offs!

    Cotton T-shirt

On cold weather trips a cotton T-shirt is the last thing you'd want, but on a summer trip it's a great way to keep cool and keep from getting burned by the sun. If you're sitting on the boat and get too hot, you can just dip your shirt in the water and put it oninstant comfort!

What you don't want: Extremely heavy cotton t-shirts with low-hanging sleeves that would make it difficult to swim.

    Old athletic shoes

Old athletic shoes are great on the river. They stay on your feet when you're swimming and they offer more foot protection than sandals. No matter what kind of sneaker you wear, make certain you've broken them in before your trip so as to avoid getting blisters.

What you don't want: Flip-flops or boots!

    Hat with a brim

Whether it's a ball cap or a wide brim sun hat, you've got to wear a hat on your river trip. As we all know, protecting yourself from the sun is very important. A hat will keep your face, ears and scalp out of the harsh rays. One exception: if you'll be on a Class IV-V river, you'll be required to wear a helmet during your trip. Wearing a hat under your helmet can often be uncomfortable. To avoid this situation we suggest you wear a visor under your helmet.

What you don't want: A skullcap or no hat at all!

    Sunglasses

Just like when you're snow skiing, you've got to protect your eyes from glare. Wearing good sunglasses is key to avoiding sun-damaged eyes (make sure they provide UVA/UVB protection). Make sure you also have a retention strap like Chums or Croakies attached to your glasses so you aren't at risk of losing them.

What you don't want: To depend on your hat to provide sun protection for your eyes.

Swimming Goggles are recommended for this Dong Kang rafting trip.

    Sunscreen

This is the single most important thing to wear on your rafting trip. There's nothing worse than having a great day on the river, then suffering through the next day with a blistering sunburn. Besides, studies show that each sunburn raises your cancer risk (especially every sunburn before age 18). Do yourself a favor and slather on the sunscreen. Make sure to get one that's at least SPF 30. When you're applying it, don't forget your ears and neck. And if you're not wearing a hat (God forbid!), make sure you put sunscreen on your hair part as well!
